Vashon Island is a romantic isle in the heart of Puget Sound, located north of Tacoma. No farther than a short ferry trip from away from Ruston or West Seattle, Vashon boasts breathtaking views of water and mountains that can be seen from many parts of it.  Vashon Island offers a wide array of artistic and cultural attractions, including its annual Strawberry Festival, which has been held every year since 1909.  (This year’s festival is July 19-21.) Much of King County’s waterfront property is located along Vashon Island’s 45 miles of beautiful shoreline.

Captain George Vancouver gave Vashon Island its name in honor of Caption James Vashon, a friend of Vancouver’s in the British Navy who fought against rebel vessels in the American Revolutionary War.
