The 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens remains a pivotal memory of many Washingtonians. At the time of the 35th anniversary commemoration a few weeks ago, documents related to that mighty  eruption topped the May Archives Treasures online poll. And now our latest Library Jewels poll shows that the famed volcano was the most popular of the three items featured.

Fifty percent of voters picked stunning aerial photos of the eruption, easily beating the collection of 19th century Captain Robert Fay’s correspondence and official records of Union and Confederate armies, which each received 25 percent.

We’ll launch the June edition of Archives Treasures in a couple of days.
