Archives tourney: Black Panther photos beat Satsop festival pix

The first quarterfinal matchup  in the Archives Treasures tourney is in the books. The 1969 Black Panther protest photos blew out the 1971 Satsop rock festival photos, 64 percent to 36 percent, so the Black Panther photos advance to the semifinals next week. The second quarterfinal, which starts this afternoon, is another classic battle, with the 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption documents taking on the 1874 Seattle photos.

When it was all over, the 1971 Satsop rock festival photos came out on top, taking 63 percent of the votes while the 1960s P.E. photo collection took in 37 percent. Archives Treasure #3: 1971 Satsop rock festival photos

A four-day rock festival held during Labor Day weekend of 1971 was held at a 77-acre farm near the small town of Satsop in Grays Harbor County.
