New exhibit profiles counterculture chronicler Tom Robbins

In what TIME magazine deemed “the year that changed the world,” Tom Robbins embodied the Altered States of America. Now his profile is part of a new exhibition by Legacy Washington about that pivotal year, 1968. Robbins, 36, was an Air Force veteran, grad school dropout and journalist who quit The Seattle Times by calling in “well.” By 1968 he was mustache-deep in counterculture. Moving Forward, Looking Back

Last night’s opening of our office’s new exhibit, “Moving Forward, Looking Back“, was an extraordinary, energetic evening dedicated to the women of Washington.  Governor Gregoire, first woman insurance commissioner Deborah Senn, first woman lands commissioner Jennifer Belcher, and relatives of Dixy Lee Ray and Belle Reeves shared inspiring stories … and there were plenty of “huzzahs” from costumed ladies in the crowd.   If you missed the event, which celebrated women’s achievements in government, watch it below or catch the program on TVW today…

Votes for women!

Members of the League of Women Voters, who were at the capitol today discussing legislation with various lawmakers, visited the Office of Secretary of State’s Office in period costume and admired our new exhibit on women in government, which celebrates the state’s centennial of women’s suffrage.  The official opening for the exhibit is this Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the office lobby.

Wondering where the George Washington portrait in our lobby went? Don’t worry …. it wasn’t stolen by art thieves and we didn’t get rid of it!
