Countdown for WA Primary 2016!

Countdown for WA Primary 2016!

Washington’s state Primary voting period is winding down, with Top 2 slots on the line for all nine statewide offices, U.S. Senate, Legislature, courts and assorted local races. Although voters have been super-engaged in the national presidential contest, response to the state Primary has been tepid in the  days leading up to the Tuesday deadline.  As of the weekend, the 39 counties reported receiving 583,489 ballots, or 14.3 percent of the 4,092,951 issued. None were processed over the weekend. Here…

WA counties certify 2014 election results

WA counties certify 2014 election results

Washington’s 39 counties have certified their 2014 election returns, in an election dominated by legislative and congressional races, state and local ballot propositions, and local races. Turnout here, as in the rest of the country, was comparatively low for a mid-term election. In Washington, the county tallies totalled 2.12 million votes, or 54.16 percent of the ballots that were mailed out. That was similar to the 56 percent turnout in 2002, the last mid-term election that did not feature a…

Secretary Reed: YOUR vote is your voice

Secretary of State Sam Reed is urging voters to take part in “one of the most significant and interesting elections in modern times.”  He said enthusiasm is “sky-high” in Washington, which regularly enjoys one of the best voter participation rates in the country. WA 2012 election is underway!

Washington’s long-awaited General Election is underway. Voters are free to mark and return the ballots just as soon as they wish, Secretary of State Sam Reed noted today.  Postmark deadline is Nov. 6, although Reed strongly recommended that voters get their ballots in the mail several days ahead of that so…

WA election tally 1.9 million … and rising

WA election tally 1.9 million … and rising

Heading into Friday afternoon-evening updates, the 39 county election offices had processed 1.9 million ballots, or better than 52 percent of the state’s 3.6 million registered voters.  Counties estimated that they had over 600,000 ballots on hand to tally, and an undetermined number still in transit.  Final turnout could top 70 percent. Washington requires only that a ballot be postmarked on Election Day, and it can take days to get from the destination to the home county, particularly for those…

Keep your enthusiasm alive: vote!

Keep your enthusiasm alive: vote!

OK, it’s like asking you eat your vegetables (and not just that Halloween candy!), but From Our Corner adds this Election Eve plea – please vote. As of Monday morning, the returns were described as light in King, Snohomish, Clark, Yakima, Spokane, Pierce and other populous counties, and moderate-to-wimpy in other locales. It literally couldn’t get much easier to vote.  Except for a relative handful of polling places in Pierce County, we’re all voting by mail.  Your ballot literally came…
