Barn calendar benefits library
The 2015 edition of Barns of Whitman County is produced by WSU’s Whitman County Extension office. The calendars are sold for $6 with all proceeds going to Friends of the Library programs and projects in all 14 branches. Calendars are available at any branch of the library, Colfax Rosauers and Pullman Chamber of Commerce. (Whitman County Gazette, Colfax, 11/13/14)

Ferndale Library cuts open a new chapter
Dignitaries, friends, staff and patrons of the Ferndale Library were on hand Saturday morning to officially cut the ceremonial ribbon at the new facility. Upper Skagit Library aims to expand
As the Upper Skagit Library District approaches its 10th anniversary, staff and supporters are celebrating getting one step closer to achieving the long-term goal of relocating to a larger venue. “From our point of view, this is a really big deal, especially for a community of this size that values what their library can do for them,” Friends of the Upper Skagit Library President Barb Trask said. CalPortland, which once owned much of the land where Concrete’s namesake cement plant operated, has offered to donate a 1.9-acre plot on Superior Avenue and Highway 20 to help the library expand. Many contributed to library vision
The Ferndale Library is done. It stands near City Hall on Main Street. Patrons and staff alike now have the luxury of critiquing a finished product, instead of a proposal. Library’s learning aids
An early literacy kit can help a parent develop a child’s key abilities on the way to becoming a reader. Kits include at least one board book for babies, several books excellent to read aloud, a DVD, a CD, a toy, and an activities notebook with finger play. Kits can be checked out from local libraries for three weeks and can be reserved in the online catalog at www.wcls.org. (Lynden Tribune, Lynden, 11/12/14)
