Student Mock Election results mirror statewide outcome

Each year, students across Washington get to participate in a mock election to show how they would vote on candidates and measures if given the chance in real life. The Mock Election is a non-partisan, educational event that teaches kids to be informed voters. We just got some exciting news from the other Washington (D.C.): We are one of 14 organizations to receive grants from the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to support mock elections and educate students about voting.  The EAC announced this week that it has awarded $40,000 to the Office of Secretary of State to provide schools with opportunities to participate in “online voting,” election-related educational activities, and two televised segments co-sponsored by TVW, Washington’s public affairs broadcast network. Voter turnout is tops at First Creek Middle School

Way to go First Creek Middle School in Tacoma! Students at this school will be recognized by Secretary Reed at their Veterans’ Day assembly on Nov. 10 for the most student ballots cast of any school participating in our Mock Election.  In all, the First Creek students cast 544 ballots. Nice! More than 5,300 students grades K-12 participated in the Mock Election, a non-partisan educational exercise that promotes civic awareness in classrooms.
