Longview council to hold hearings Thursday on federal grant awards | Local | tdn.com

The Longview City Council on Thursday will hold a public hearing on the allocation of federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME dollars.

The city has about $251,600 available in CDBG funding and has received requests from Community House on Broadway, the city Parks and Recreation Department and Lower Columbia CAP. (See attached list of recommended awards.)

The council will also consider how to allocate about $162,000 in federal HOME dollars. The city received $180,500 in grant requests from Community House, Foundation for the Challenged and Lower Columbia CAP. (See attached list.)

City staff will recommend naming Lower Columbia CAP as the recipient of the Consortium Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) set-aside and operating costs funds for 2019, which is a total of $15,440 in grant funding.

During the 7 p.m. meeting Tuesday in City Hall, the council will hold a public hearing on its Six-Year Transportation Improvement Plan for 2020 to 2025. State law requires the city to each year update the list of federally funded or proposed transportation-related projects within the city. After the public hearing, the council will consider adopting the plan.

The council will additionally consider renewing an agreement between the Kelso and Longview public libraries for reciprocal borrowing for another five years. The agreement allows Longview citizens to have access to a Kelso library card, and vice versa. As of December, 876 Kelso cardholders received Longview cards and 805 Longview cardholders received Kelso cards, according to council documents. The Kelso City Council approved the agreement at its last meeting.
Mayor Don Jensen is expected to appoint Jeanne Daggett to the position of “member, disability at large” on the Accessibility Advisory Committee after a recent resignation.

In other business, the council will consider:

  • Approving an agreement that allows Jefferson County to use the city’s propane Autogas conversion contract with Wolf Specialties. Jefferson County would deal directly with Wolf Specialties so there would be little impact on Longview, according to city officials.
  • Approving an agreement with Region 4 Education Service Center to use its contract with National Roofing Partners for roof repairs at City Hall and Fire Station 81 on Commerce Avenue.
  • Closing out a contract with Lee Contractors LLC for sidewalk installation around the Shay locomotive.

Ahead of the regular meeting, the council will hold a closed executive session at 6 p.m. in City Hall. No details have yet been released.
