Results are in on “State Library jewel”!

Earlier this week we asked you to vote on the “State Library jewel” you found most interesting.

The poll has closed, and the winner of our “State Library jewel” contest is the suffrage leader’s scrapbook, carrying 57 percent of all votes.

The 1924 road map came in second (27 percent) followed by the list of motor vehicle owners in 1912 (16 percent).

Inside the scrapbook  is Clara Watson Elsom’s own collection of newspaper articles, photographs, letters and notes, as well as the obituary of Emma Smith DeVoe, president of the Washington Equal Suffrage Association and state organizer for a women’s voting group called NAWSA.

The scrapbook was assembled in no particular order, but does contain several bits of memorabilia ranging from October 22, 1908, to August 27, 1938.

Thank you all for voting. We will continue to showcase the hidden treasures of our State Library and State Archives throughout the year. In fact, we’ll do a February “Archives Treasures” poll later this month, so watch for that!
