1) RECRUITING A LIBRARY CONSULTANT

The Washington State Library, Office of the Secretary of State, is recruiting for the position of Library Consultant (Library and Archival Professional 4). Located within the Library Development Program, the Library Consultant (LAP4) is responsible for carrying out statewide projects with minimal oversight, while providing expert-level consultation to libraries throughout the state of Washington. If you are a professional librarian with experience developing, managing, and/or implementing library programs, we look forward to hearing from you. For more information, including salary range, visit sos.wa.gov/q/WSL-LAP4.

2) FIRST TUESDAYS – CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE

Want to revitalize your information literacy tutorial, but not quite sure how? Interested in finding a way to assess student learning and engagement beyond the pre- and post-test? Choose Your Own Adventure-style tutorials allow students to direct their own paths through traditional learning materials, while offering librarians opportunities to reinforce learning objectives, model behavior, and increase student engagement, and also provide rich insights into student behavior and confidence.

This webinar will give participants an understanding of what these tutorials are, how they work, and when they might be appropriate; as well as considerations for selecting tools for the project; and first steps to building their own tutorials. To learn about education modeled after Choose Your Own Adventure books from the 80s, attend this WSL First Tuesdays webinar.

“Choose Your Own Adventure Series: Online Orientation,” presented by Maggie Faber, University of Washington, March 7, 2017, 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. PST. To join the presentation, visit sos.wa.gov/q/FirstT.

3) PRIVACY LITERACY AT YOUR LIBRARY

Our offline lives are no longer separate from our online identities. Many people are unaware of how their information is being used, what they have control over, or how to have safe online interactions. San José Public Library’s Virtual Privacy Lab has developed a seven-module customized learning experience for library patrons, in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. The modules guide users through topics such as social media and security, and provide personalized tips, links and resources that enable them to feel safe and confident online. This privacy literacy resource is available for everyone, so learn how you can utilize the online Virtual Privacy Lab with the populations you serve at your library.

This WebJunction webinar is part of a series highlighting the work of recent LJ Movers & Shakers and is hosted in collaboration with Library Journal. Presented by: Erin Berman, Innovations Manager, San José Public Library (CA), a 2016 Library Journal Mover & Shaker.

4) NCCE ADOBE STORYTELLING ACADEMY

The Adobe Storytelling Academy is a hands-on, integrated approach to storytelling that will provide participants the opportunity to take a deeper dive into the Adobe products that will unleash their creativity. This two-day academy will model different ways to engage students in storytelling and enable educators to leverage their knowledge of Adobe products to empower students to tell their stories. Participants will grouped according to interests. Day one will be spent deciding on a theme and gathering and creating original media. On day two, participants will divide according to the strands listed below to create a digital product using a variety of Adobe products. The end of day two will involve a showcase of all work created during the Storytelling Academy.

This workshop will be held March 21-22, 2017, in conjunction with the Northwest Council for Computer Education Conference in Portland. For more information and to register: sos.wa.gov/q/adobe.
