New exhibit explores Vietnam war experiences of Washington Green Beret

A profile of Bryon Loucks, a Green Beret medic who served with a secret reconnaissance group in Vietnam, is the latest chapter in Legacy Washington’s new project “1968: The Year that Rocked Washington.” The profile — part of an exhibit that will open Sept. 13 at the State Capitol — is now online at the Legacy Washington 1968 homepage. It took us some time, but we managed to put a name to this portrait photo from state archives, solving last week’s mystery. We’d been unable to identify its subject from its original caption of “Unidentified Representative” and description of its subject as a former Washington legislator at the time Vibert Jeffers took the picture in 1939. It’s the giving season and the Holiday Kids’ Tree symbolizes it in the best way. Each year, the Association of Washington Business (AWB) hosts the Holiday Kids’ Tree lighting marking the end of their Holiday Kids’ Tree Project of that year.  The project collects donations and funds to be given to children and families in need in rural areas. It seldom happens, but sometimes an election race is decided by a coin toss. That was the case last week when two candidates for mayor in the Lewis County town of Winlock were tied for second place in last month’s Primary Election after a recount.  The two candidates, incumbent Mayor Cy Meyers and challenger Don Bradshaw had 49 votes apiece.
