Lattes on a library card?
Kitsap Regional Library kicked off design discussion about its new Silverdale Branch Wednesday night. The library chose its site by the Bucklin Hill bridge and Clear Creek Trail in August and is working on a conceptual design before fundraising begins next year. While indoor meeting space for the public still is being discussed as part of the branch, the architecture firm presented a possible site layout and discussed the potential of making money by renting or leasing space in the library to a business or nonprofit. One person asked whether the library could have a Starbucks. (The Kitsap Sun, Bremerton, 11/14/14)

Sno-Isle Libraries small works roster
Public Notice – Notice is hereby given that Sno-Isle Libraries maintains a Small Works Roster of qualified contractors and is receiving applications to be placed upon this roster. Applications must be from licensed contractors in the state of Washington. Contractors whose names appear on the Small Works Roster may be contacted from time to time to submit job proposals for contracts in the amount of $200,000 or less. Applications must be submitted to Sno-Isle Libraries by mail or fax. Union Gap City Council votes to renew a contract with Yakima Valley Libraries
On Monday the council also voted to renew a contract with Yakima Valley Libraries to pay for library access for all Union Gap residents in absence of a city library. An estimated 385 families in Union Gap utilize library services, according to a letter to the city from Libraries Director Kim Hixson. The library services contract will cost the city $19,250 in 2015, or $50 per family projected to access one of the libraries. That’s the same price the city paid for 2014. A fresh start begins for library fines
In this Opinion column, Darcy Brixey, teen services librarian at the Bellevue Library, says there is a campaign right now to help rid students of their library fines. If students are in kindergarten through 12th grade, they can ask for a Fresh Start on fines that were accrued before November 2014. This does not extend to fees from lost items or to adults. Money for W. Richland library drying up
How West Richland will pay to keep its library open is uncertain as city officials face declining income from the tax that covers its library services. The city and Mid-Columbia Libraries recently agreed to a 12-month extension of the contract, city and library officials said. Library officials said they are optimistic about crafting a separate new contract with the city in coming months. Talks between the city and library have been diplomatic, said Kyle Cox, Mid-Columbia Libraries’ executive director. However, he emphasized that a multi-year contract is the library district’s goal.
