Classic WA photos: 1920s loggers in Mason County

Simpson Logging Co. 1920s photo

One of the industries that made Washington famous nationally and beyond was logging. Back in the 1920s, logging was a top job producer in our state.

This 1920s photo shows 19 men and a horse standing or sitting on the stump of a mighty old-growth tree in the Simpson Logging Company’s Camp #5 in Mason County. Considering the stump’s height, that horse must have been a really good jumper!

You can view many classic photos of Washington’s people and places by visiting the State Library Photograph Collection, 1851-1990, which is found in our Digital Archives. Interested in seeing other photo collections in the Digital Archives? Just go here.
