The Pierce County Library System is repeating last year’s successful library card drive, which brought in 5,532 new users, hoping to reach 8,000 new card holders. Incentives include a drawing for a Wii or a computer flash drive. Present card holders can enter by bringing in a friend or family member. People who haven’t used their card in two years are eligible to get a new one. (The Herald [Puyallup], 9-25-08)

Sam Reed’s sponsorship of the imperiled State Library and the opening of the nation’s first state governmental digital archives are mentioned as part of a recommendation for his re-election. (Walla Walla Union-Bulletin, 9-29-08)
Two letters discuss a coming parks election for the city of Sammamish, and mention the construction of a new Sammamish Library (King County Library System). One adds this general but pertinent quote-“there is never going to be enough money—ever. No matter what is cut or how lean and mean you run your city, there is never enough money. There will probably not be cheaper land….If you want something, you’re going to have to pay for it with tax dollars as a community; capital bonds to build it, and maintenance levies to protect your tax dollar investment.
