Didyaknow…?
… The Washington State’s capitol building was the last state capitol building to be built with a rotunda and it is the tallest masonry dome in the entire United States:
Standing 287 feet, it is the 4th tallest in the world, only surpassed by St. Peter’s Cathedral in Rome (446 feet), St. Paul’s Cathedral in London (355.5 feet), and St. Isaac’s Cathedral in St. Petersburg (333 feet).

Wow, cool photograph, Stephanie. Interesting to me was the list of taller domes, all of which I’ve seen. Walked to the top of St. Peter’s dome in 1973. Spectacular view. Don’t suppose we can do that in Olympia.
Trust me, I wish we could take visitors to the top of the Oly’ dome, but more than 10 years ago it was deemed unsafe. There is spiral staircase inside the dome that leads to the very top and if someone got hurt, a stretcher would not be able to maneuver the stairs.
The Pantheon in Rome should be at the very top of the list, at least for sheer magic, if no longer size. -Len
That is a cool picture. Reminds me of the Capitol building in D.C.
