It’s Our Week and We’ll Ssssshhhh If We Want To!
We’d be remiss if we didn’t wish you a happy National Library Week! I imagine that many of you will celebrate by heading to Spokane for WLA this week, but maybe you’re initiating some other festivities in your library as well.
Entertainment Weekly was kind enough to mention National Library Week in its online PopWatch section, which means we’re rubbing elbows with Simon Cowell and Lindsay Lohan. Still, it’s nice to have a little recognition, and they’ve included some fun videos of libraries / librarians portrayed throughout popular cinema.
If you want more librarian portrayals, you might check out this YouTube playlist, playfully titled: TK5105.8868.Y68 B66 2008. Okay, so I suppose that’s only playful if you enjoy LC cataloguing. But who doesn’t?
EW missed one of the coolest pop librarians, and a personal inspiration to me (both for becoming a librarian and in my ongoing quest to defeat the undead): Rupert Giles from the show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Luckily, there’s no dearth of Giles fan videos on the web, so I’ve included one for your viewing pleasure.
Happy National Library Week, libraries of Washington State! Let us know what YOU’RE doing to celebrate by leaving a comment, or just share your own favorite pop culture library reference!
