The goal of the Friends of the Library, organizers of the “I Topped the Rock to Save the Library” event, is to raise $12,000 to keep the Castle Rock Library open through next April. A library levy failed in November by just nine votes, another levy is on the August 18 ballot. Despite the objections of one of its members, the Camas City Council approved $550,000 in library bond interest expenditures. The designated expenditures will be for books and materials, land acquisition, and machinery and equipment. (Camas-Washougal Post Record, 5.26.09)
The Digital Bookmobile owned by OverDrive Inc., a major supplier of online audio books visits the Everett Public Library and Monroe Sno-Isle Libraries branch. The Digital Bookmobile is an 18 wheel big rig equipped with broadband Internet connections, six big screen HDTVs, and 11 computer stations. Designs created by five student artists were selected as finalists from a field of 110 entries as the Pierce County Library System proceeds with a new library card for its 17 branches.
