Washington State Library is proud to bring Jane Cobb, author of I’m a Little Teapot! Presenting Preschool Storytime and What’ll I do with the Baby-O? Nursery Rhymes, Songs, and Stories for Babies, This full day workshop is funded with LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) funds from IMLS (Institute of Museum and Library Services.)
Youth services library staff (and those who conduct storytimes at the library) are invited to attend this free workshop at one of the seven locations around the state. If there is space left three weeks before each workshop, registration will be accepted from non-youth library staff as well.
Registration is limited so please register early and cancel your registration if you are unable to attend so that those on the waiting list have the opportunity to attend.
Deadline for registration is two weeks prior to each workshop or when workshop is full. For full workshops, a short waiting list will be created.
This workshop is eligible for CE Grants from WSL (http://www.sos.wa.gov/library/libraries/training/continuEd.aspx) to help cover travel costs if you live more than 50 miles from the workshop site.
Join Jane Cobb for a full day workshop to learn:
- Interactive rhymes, songs and stories: how to use them in programs and teach them to parents and caregivers.
- Overview of early language and literacy development and how to apply this in programs.
- Introduction to storytelling in family programs; how to learn an oral story to tell, how to make it your own, and why storytelling is so beneficial to the whole family, and especially to young children.
- Program management tips: how to facilitate a group, how to deliver a program, learning what is appropriate for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and mixed ages; how to include reluctant participants (parents and children); how to handle difficult situations and surprise moments.

- Friday, April 16, 2010: Columbia County Rural Library System, Dayton, WA
- Monday, April 19, 2010: Spokane Public Library, Shadle Branch, Spokane, WA
- Tuesday, April 20, 2010: North Central Regional Library System Distribution Center, Wenatchee, WA
