Here is this year’s Voters’ Pamphlet cover
Even though voters won’t be receiving their copy for several weeks, we thought you’d like to see the cover for the State Voters’ Pamphlet for the 2010 General Election.
The cover honors the centennial of women’s suffrage in Washington. Our office is planning an event in November to celebrate the 100th anniversary of this monumental occasion. In honor of the centennial, we’ve helped create a year-long exhibit entitled MOVING FORWARD, LOOKING BACK: Washington’s First Women in Government.
Depending on the county, the Voters’ Pamphlet will be mailed out sometime between October 7 and October 16. For those who want to get a head start on learning more about the candidates and ballot measures on this fall’s ballot, our Online Voters Guide should be up and running soon after September 7. The General Election is November 2.

Does this mean we will actually get a voters pamphlet for the 2010 General Election? The decision to not send a voter’s pamphlet for the primary election was absolutely the worst decision made and many of us, myself included, want to know who made this decision! Asking people to access it on-line left out thousands of people who either don’t own a pc or have access to one or know how to use one.
I would like a reply as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Marcia Nichols
Hi Marcia – Yes, all households with registered voters in our state will receive a 2010 General Election Voters’ Pamphlet this fall. The main reason why there was no statewide Primary Voters’ Pamphlet this year was because of the state’s budget crisis. (BTW, there have been only two statewide Primary Voters’ Pamphlets before, in 2000 and 2008.) Knowing that the state Legislature faced a $3 billion budget shortfall this year, Secretary Reed and our Elections Division chose not to request funding for a Primary Voters’ Pamphlet this year. (It cost the state $1.5 million to publish and distribute the 2008 Primary VP.) Likewise, many counties chose not to produce a hard version of a Primary Voters’ Pamphlet because of their budget troubles. Like you, I wish we could have had a statewide Primary Voters’ Pamphlet, but the state’s budget problem was just too severe to do one this year. – Brian Zylstra, Deputy Communications Director, Office of Secretary of State
Has the pamphlet been mailed yet? There is so much to digest and I’m sure we usually have the pamphlet sooner than this.
