When JFK visited our Washington

November 22 marked the anniversary when John F. Kennedy, our nation’s 35th president, was assassinated in 1963 in Dallas. Our Digital Archives has a few photos of JFK when he visited Washington state, both as a candidate and later as president.
This 1960 photo shows Kennedy riding in a convertible during a presidential campaign event with U.S. Senator Henry “Scoop” Jackson (left) and Governor Albert Rosellini (right). The photo was taken at the corner of 5th Avenue and University Street in downtown Seattle. The marquee at the 5th Avenue Theatre, visible in the background, reads “AW C’MON ‘LET’S MAKE LOVE’ WITH MARILYN MONROE AND YVES MONTRAND.”
