Sno-Isle Libraries has announced that its eBook collection is now compatible with the world’s bestselling eBook reader, the Amazon Kindle. Customers can now download popular and classic eBooks to a Kindle device or any mobile device running the free Kindle app, such as iPhone, iPad, Android, and more. (The Mukilteo Beacon, 9.28.11)

Starting in November, migrant families in Whatcom County will have a chance to learn some practical early education skills through a pilot program being offered at the Lynden Public Library, a part of the Whatcom County Library System. The program is being funded through $8,000 in grants from local businesses and organizations, including Friends of the Lynden Library. (Photo) (Lynden Tribune, 9.28.11)

The Friends of the Mukilteo Library, a part of Sno-Isle Libraries, have voted to provide funding to the Mukilteo Wildlife Habitat Project to create a wildlife habitat garden at the Mukilteo Library. Approximately 400 native trees, shrubs and perennials will be planted in the garden. The garden is meant to be used as an educational tool. Buildings
At its September meeting the Pierce County Library System’s Board of Trustees discussed the building and services for the new Fife Pierce County Library. The Fife Library will be the first of the 18 Pierce County Libraries to be non-Dewey, which means the library will be designed more like a bookstore than a library. The full service library is scheduled to open in late fall 2011. (Milton-Edgewood Signal, [Tacoma] 9.23.11)

The six Skagit County libraries recently completed a very successful Summer Reading program based on the theme, One World Many Stories. Skagit County Youth Services Librarians are able to offer this annual program because of the generous donations we receive.
