Snoqualmie Middle School seventh grade student Kallin Spiller was a Washington State Finalist in the Letters About Literature writing competition. Letters About Literature is sponsored by the Washington State Library, Office of the Secretary of State, as part of the Washington Reads program. Letters About Literature is also sponsored by The Center for the Book, The Library of Congress and the Target Company. Library News
Ridgefield Community Library, a part of the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District, changed its hours for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. – 6p.m., beginning May 1. There are no changes to the current Tuesday and Saturday hours. The Library will remain closed on Sunday and Monday. (Reflector, [Battle Ground] 5.9.12)
With the drooping economy and an uncertain future for the Sedro-Woolley Public Library, its supporters are looking to keep it healthy and stable with an expansion. Library officials say they want to pitch the idea of a rural partial library district to city and county residents living within the Sedro-Woolley School District boundaries. Nearly 45 Whitman County youngsters met the goal of not watching television during a week in April to meet the library’s five-day TV Free Challenge. Edmonds Community College participated in “Snapshot: One Day in the Life of Washington’s Libraries,” a satewide project that each year gathers statistics, stories and photographs to illustrate the importance of libraries for Washington’s citizens. (The Weekly Herald, [Lynnwood] 5.9.12)
A three-year effort to raise money for a new Ferndale Public Library has stalled, after city officials learned Tuesday, June 5, that a request for a major grant will not be approved. With that news, the city still needs $2 million to cover construction and other preliminary work for the total $5.1 million project. Buildings
The Endicott Branch of the Whitman County Library has moved to the Endicott City Hall and is operating from this temporary location until completion of a remodel scheduled for August. With the United States Department of Agriculture, Inland Northwest Community Foundation, Avista and local contributions, $120,000 has been raised to remove harmful toxins, bring the library into ADA compliance and give the library a much needed facelift. After 2 ½ years in a temporary location, the Roslyn Public Library will move back home in mid-June, marking the completion of Phase 1B of the Roslyn City Hall renovation project. The Library hopes to open to the public after the Fourth of July weekend. Programs & Displays
Summer with the Master Artists is a free art program being offered by the Colfax Library, a part of the Whitman County Rural Library District, and Colfax Arts Council for kids ages 7-12. The program will be offered in the Hamilton Building next to the library. Dates for the program are June 20 and 27; July 11 and 18 from 3-4:30 p.m. (Whitman County Gazette, [Colfax] 5.10.12)
