From the Archives: Razor clamming photos

With news that the state Department of Fish and Wildlife has approved a razor clam dig later this week (March 28-31) during the morning low tides, many of you diggers will be tempted to retrieve your clam tubes or shovels and buckets and make a trip to the coast.
Here is a look back at clamming in the 1950s. The photo above features two kids receiving clam digging pointers at Grayland. In the photo below, two girls pursue the tasty mollusks at Pacific Beach. The photos are found in the Digital Archives’ State Library Photograph Collection, 1851-1990.
If you can’t go clamming this week, no worries. WDFW announced there are several tentative dates in April for additional clam digging.
