1) FIRST TUESDAYS – IMPACT SURVEY
Do your library’s technology services meet the needs of your users? Would you like to know, but don’t know where to begin? Come to the next First Tuesdays presentation, Impact Survey. Samantha Becker, of the University of Washington iSchool, will talk about this online survey tool that is designed specifically for public libraries that want to have a better understanding of their communities and their use of public technology resources and services. Find out how your library can become a more integral part of your community’s digital world.
Designed as a continuing education opportunity for staff of libraries in Washington State, this free web presentation, which will take place on September 10, 2013, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. PDT, lets attendees share their skills and successes and learn about new topics. Sessions are recorded so that others may listen at their own convenience. For more information about First Tuesdays, visit sos.wa.gov/q/tuesdays. For instructions on joining the presentation, visit sos.wa.gov/q/FirstTuesdays.

5) DISASTER PLANNING – BEYOND COLLECTIONS
You’ve heard about disaster planning for collections, but have you also thought about preparing the business side of your organization? How will you protect your records, policies, and procedures? How will you communicate? How will you help your most important asset—your employees—to prepare for and recover from disasters? Having a plan that prepares your business operations for a disaster can ensure that you’re back in business quickly and able to serve your community.
Get help with business preparedness planning through a series of free webinars this month, hosted by the U.S. Small Business Administration and Agility Recovery. This series is presented in collaboration with FEMA’s Ready Campaign, as part of National Preparedness Month.
The webinars, presented from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 PDT, will be held on the following three Wednesdays:
- September 11: Protecting Your Organization by Preparing Your Employees; register at sos.wa.gov/q/SBA11Sept;
