On the road again
Over the past few months, Secretary Wyman has been traveling around Washington on a number of multi-purpose trips. As she is the Secretary OF State, we’ve been calling these community visits her Secretary IN State tour.
Since August, she’s visited Kelso and Longview in Cowlitz County; Vancouver and Camas in Clark County; Aberdeen in Grays Harbor County; Pasco, Richland and Kennewick in Benton and Franklin Counties; Walla Walla in Walla Walla County; Bellingham and Fairview in Whatcom County, Mount Vernon in Skagit County, Spokane in Spokane County; and now Connell in Franklin County.
On these trips, Secretary Wyman has been visiting local and institutional libraries (prison and state hospital libraries are run by the Secretary of State’s Office), satellite branches of the Washington State Archives (also under the Secretary of State’s Office), county auditor offices and elections departments, domestic violence shelters to help promote the Address Confidentiality Program, newspapers, radio and television stations, and more.
Additionally, at nearly every stop she gathers together a number of community leaders – such as nonprofit directors, business owners, local elected officials, educational leaders, etc. – to listen to their thoughts and ideas about how the Office of the Secretary of State can better serve their communities. So far, these community leaders meetings have been invaluable.
