Archives and campaign pieces: Slade Gorton

OK, we’re almost there. Election Day is tomorrow! If you haven’t filled out and returned your ballot yet, do it soon! For Election Eve, we’re spotlighting an old campaign piece from Republican Slade Gorton, who was Washington State’s Attorney General from 1969 until 1981, when he began serving the first of two stints in the U.S. Senate, 1981-87 and again from 1989 to 2001.

We’re entering the last weekend before the big election. For those of you who aren’t overwhelmed by looking at campaign literature, here is one from long ago. It features former U.S. House Speaker Tom Foley of Spokane. Foley represented Eastern Washington’s 5th Congressional District from 1965 to 1995. He served as House Speaker during his final six years in Congress. Foley later was U.S. ambassador to Japan from 1997 to 2001.

Here is our latest example of an archived campaign piece featuring a past Washington political leader: Jennifer Dunn, who served in Congress from 1993 to 2005 as the rep from the 8th District. This campaign brochure is from the early or mid-1990s. Prior to going to Congress, Dunn served 11 years as chair of the Washington State Republican Party.

Democrat Rosellini celebrated his 100th birthday on January 21.
