College Civics tour: Day 3

Secretary Wyman hit the road Monday to continue her spring College Civics tour. Here she is pictured chatting with a Central Washington University student on the Ellensburg campus.  The day began with a visit to Wenatchee Valley College at Omak before stopping at CWU. Wyman then headed east for visits to Spokane Falls Community College and Eastern Washington University. The tour continues Tuesday with visits to Whatcom Community College, Western Washington University, Skagit Valley College and Pacific Lutheran University.

College civics tour: CWU

After devoting much of April to his annual college civics tour, Secretary Reed began May by resuming the tour with a visit to Central Washington University in Ellensburg. While at Central, Reed met with students at a campus event also attended by CWU President James Gaudino and Kittitas County Auditor Jerry Pettit. Secretary Reed visits Yakima Valley College on Wednesday.

Traditionally, college students have had the lowest voter turnout figures of any voting age group. In the 2010 General Election, Washington’s 18-24 voting age group had only a 40.44 percent turnout, compared to the overall turnout of 71.24 percent. Worse, the 18-24 set made up only about 5 percent of the electorate last November.
