Initiative error rates vary from year to year
A new Elections Division posting shows a wide variety of error rates over the past two decades. The average has been about 18.5 percent. Twenty of the 57 initiatives and referenda checked since 1990 had invalidation rates of 20 percent or more. The biggest invalidation rates were tribal gaming measures in 1995 and 1996, with error rates of 27.46 percent and 26.61 percent, for I-651 and I-671, respectively.
