For years, Secretary Reed has helped lead efforts to recognize and honor public employees during Public Service Recognition Week each May. During the PSRW event on the Capitol Campus Wednesday, Reed himself was recognized. State Senator Karen Fraser, who serves Olympia and the rest of the 22nd Legislative District, presented Reed with a special award for co-chairing PSRW since 2001 along with State Auditor Brian Sonntag. During his visit to Yakima Valley Community College, Secretary Reed turned into Alex Trebek and hosted what has become a tradition at YVCC — a game of Civics Jeopardy in which students are the contestants. The winner was Kanisa Regan (below), who is pursuing a business degree at the college. We have no idea who that stiff-looking guy is standing next to Kanisa!

College civics tour: CWU

After devoting much of April to his annual college civics tour, Secretary Reed began May by resuming the tour with a visit to Central Washington University in Ellensburg. While at Central, Reed met with students at a campus event also attended by CWU President James Gaudino and Kittitas County Auditor Jerry Pettit. Secretary Reed visits Yakima Valley College on Wednesday.

College civics tour: Whitman College

Secretary Reed is still traversing the state on his annual college civics tour to talk with students about the importance of voting and being involved with their community. While in Walla Walla Thursday, he did an interview at Whitman College’s radio station, KWCW, with student Zach Duffy (right) and Whitman College President George Bridges. Reed’s other stops that day included Columbia Basin College, Walla Walla Community College and Walla Walla University.
