Lawmakers love the beautiful game
It’s official: soccer’s a hit in Washington.
State lawmakers recently showed Seattle Sounders some love for a successful inaugural season by passing a resolution in both the Senate and House chambers. And guess who stopped by the Legislative Building last week? Lacey native Kasey Keller, the team’s captain and goalkeeper, and Adrian Hanauer, the team’s general manager, who hung out with fans at a short reception.
Our agency’s Webmaster Matthew Edwards (pictured here with Keller) told the player he’s been a fan for more than 17 years. He joins the lawmakers in thanking the team “for bringing exciting, world class professional soccer to all Washington state citizens.”

Correction on the amount of time I have been a Keller fan. I have been following his career since 1998 (11 years or so) when he played for the US Men’s national team in the World Cup. It’s about that time that European soccer started to be shown to american television audiences with increased regularity, so I was able to cheer for him during his time at Tottenham and later Fulham (except when they played my beloved Liverpool). It’s great to have him back in Washington with the Sounders.
