Archives spotlights logging history

Not even Game 1 of the World Series could keep nearly 75 people from attending Thursday night’s logging history event at the State Archives in Olympia. The three-hour program, called “Logging in Washington: High Climbing and Tall Timber,” included a 1920s silent film on the old days of the Schafer Brothers Logging Company of Aberdeen. It also featured presentations by Schafer family member Peter Reid and two generations of Washington loggers, as well as a logging photo exhibit and a tour of the Archives facility.  These photos shown here were taken from the film.

October is Washington Archives Month. Go here to learn more about Archives Month events, or to view and download a PDF of the 2010 poster as well as previous posters.

  1. I was working for summit timber out of Darrington in the late 1980’s. The northwoods photographic project, John Tylczak out of Shelton Washington came out on our jobsite and took many pictures of our crew. I received one from John as a postcard, but am looking for the rest of the collection. Any idea where I can locate this work or John?

  2. I just came across a picture that he took on my husbands job site in 1992 and I also would like to find him to order some of the photos he took. Did you have any luck locating him
