2) UNI 2014 SUMMER TOUR

In 2013, the Foundation for Early Learning, now Thrive by Five Washington, kicked off a new family engagement initiative, the UNI: a Portable Early Learning Lab. This initiative is designed to complement Thrive’s thematic granting program, which is currently focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

Now that it’s officially summer, Thrive will be visiting parts of Washington State for the 2014 UNI Summer Tour, participating in 14 events in 11 counties. To learn more about UNI and to find a UNI event at a town near you, visit sos.wa.gov/q/UNIlab.

3) THERE’S STILL TIME FOR STARTING STRONG

Each year, the Starting Strong Institute brings together members of Washington’s early learning community in a conference that facilitates the sharing of innovative ideas and strengthens the connections between early learning and K-12 professionals. The 2014 Starting Strong Institute will be held at the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick, Tuesday, August 5 – Wednesday, August 6, 2014. The conference will include breakout sessions focused on P-3 (pre-school through 3rd grade) alignment and implementation including WaKIDS, the Early Learning Guidelines and Common Core, and Community Collaboration.

Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with the early learning community – registration closes on Friday, August 1, 2014. For more information about the conference and to register, visit sos.wa.gov/q/OSPIStrong.

4) LEAD THE CHANGE

Library Journal’s Lead the Change: Engaging Your Community is coming to Seattle! Lead the Change is a full-day, hands-on workshop that brings library thought-leaders, directors, and staff together to explore effective marketing and community engagement strategies.

During this interactive program, participants will be exposed to fresh ideas, insights and views from David Bendekovic, program developer and his co-facilitators, including recent Library Journal Librarians of the Year and Movers and Shakers. Attendees will be guided through a planning workbook and provided with tips, tools and techniques for developing and executing an integrated, sustainable marketing and engagement plan and will be challenged to rethink their customers, their community, their processes and their organizational capabilities and will walk away with a framework that gets results.

Workshop information:
