1) LIBRARY COUNCIL OF WASHINGTON SEEKS NEW MEMBERS
The Library Council of Washington is seeking new members. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the present and future of libraries in our state. Currently, there are four openings for members in these categories: Special Libraries, Information Technology, Disadvantaged, and Four-Year Academic. Please apply for one of these positions, or encourage a colleague to do so; your ideas and contributions are needed.
Library Council serves as an advocate and a catalyst for developing and implementing statewide library programs. The Council is the conduit from local communities, both geographic and demographic, which advises the State Librarian and the Secretary of State. Council is a forum where the library community can discuss issues. Our goal is to improve services to all people in Washington by encouraging and supporting cooperation and collaboration.
The application period closes on September 15th. Be part of deciding where we’re going; send yours today.
Visit these webpages for more information about the Library Council and for information about the open positions and application process.

2) EVERGREEN RADIO READING SERVICE CLOSED
The Washington Talking Book & Braille Library’s Evergreen Radio Reading Service (ERRS) has closed after 41 years of 24/7 broadcasting. ERRS was the periodicals section of the Talking Book & Braille Library, allowing patrons to hear the most current news, events, grocery advertisements, and much, much more. ERRS was closed due to budget cuts.

3) OVERVIEW OF EBOOK MARKET PLACE FROM READERS FIRST
The E-Book marketplace has been chaotic for libraries. Readers First is an organization founded by librarians to advocate for the public to ensure users have the same open, easy and free access to e-books they have come to rely on with print books.
Recently the Readers First Initiative has been joined by the Ohio Library Council Federal EBook Project. Spokane Public’s Support Services Manager Robert Roose will share what progress has been made by Readers First organization at 9 a.m. on September 9th.
Designed as a continuing education opportunity for staff of libraries in Washington State, this free web presentation, which will take place on September 9th 2014, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. PDT, lets attendees share their skills and successes and learn about new topics. Sessions are recorded so that others may listen at their own convenience. For more information about First Tuesdays, visit sos.wa.gov/q/tuesdays. For instructions on joining the webinar, visit sos.wa.gov/q/FirstTuesdays.

4)SHAKESPEARE EXHIBIT – DEADLINE EXTENDED
The application deadline for Shakespeare and His First Folio, a traveling exhibition offered by the American Library Association (ALA) in collaboration with the Folger Shakespeare Library and Cincinnati Museum Center (CMC), has been extended to Oct. 24, 2014.
The exhibition—part of the international events planned in observance of the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death—will bring the 1623 original edition of the playwright’s first published collection to 53 sites in 2016: one site in all 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Each location will host the exhibition for four weeks.
The opportunity is open to public, academic and special libraries, small museums, colleges and universities, historical societies and other cultural venues. Full guidelines and an online application are available at apply.ala.org/shakespeare.
