Airway Heights Corrections Center Branch Library

In the beautiful area of Spokane the Airway Heights Corrections Center (AHCC) Branch Library provides library services to the offenders of Airway Heights Corrections Center.  Walking into AHCC Branch Library you will find a large room with high windows and plants thriving in the sunlight.  Several tables and chairs are scattered around the room, providing a place for study or just reading the newspaper.  In aproxmitaly 3800 sq. ft. this library is home to 19,000 items and the books are shelved similiarly to a small public library, with fiction in alphabetical order by the author, and the non-fiction surrounding the outer walls following Dewey’s system of classification.  As one of the newest branches, opening to the offenders of Airway Heights Corrections Center in 1992, staff serve 1,565 offenders with a typical schedule of 5 days a week, with 2 evenings.  AHCC stays pretty busy each month with an average circulation of about 9,949 items and a grand total of 110,443 items in the year 2007.   The staff at AHCC Branch Library strive to meet the educational, informational, and recreational needs of the offenders by providing books, magazines, newspapers, cassettes, and CDs.  Information from the Internet or through the Interlibrary Loan process is also made available to the offenders.  A specialized reference collections assists offenders with re-entry (the resources needed to re-enter society).
