Library tours/orientation

Well today I had the pleasure of giving a small orientation to a class from the education department.  I also have another one this afternoon.  I have found that these have gotten easier over time, but I still wonder what to say and I have to remember what they need to know.  Checkout periods, how many books or CDs, mention ILLs and that they can only come in during their scheduled time,  the re-entry notebook, and other things that are considered vital for them to know.  Then it comes time for them to leave and I am wondering “What did I forget to tell them?” So I just hope I got everything covered and that is was interesting enough that they will want to come back during the regular library hours.  Essentially it comes down to getting the word out to the inmates about what we can offer them, so orientation is one idea, but I think I need to come up with a few more.  There is nothing wrong with increasing the library circulation and of course getting more people into the reading game. 🙂
