Congratulations KCLS!
The King County Library System (KCLS) was recently awarded a $998,556 National Leadership Grant by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to fund a project that will develop the Evergreen open source library system, making it a more useful system for large public libraries. KCLS will contribute over $1 million of its own matching funds to the project, which will partner with three library systems around the country: the Peninsula Library System (San Mateo, CA), the Orange County Library System (Orlando, FL), and the Ann Arbor Library District (MI). Additional library systems are expected to join the project over the next several years.
For additional details, read the KCLS press release. IMLS is the funding agency for much of the “library development” work done here at the Washington State Library. On the page where IMLS announces the National Leadership Grant awards for 2009, the University of Washington’s Information School also receives a $92,744 grant for an early learning project titled “Project VIEWS.” Congratulations to both of these institutions!
