1) MARCH 1 LAUNCH FOR OCLC DOWNLOADABLE AUDIOBOOKS

The WSL project, Off the Page: Downloadable Audiobooks for Washington, is pleased to announce the conclusion of the contract negotiations with OCLC NetLibrary. This means that everything is in line for a March 1 launch date for the OCLC NetLibrary Recorded Books collections.

An OCLC order form and the accompanying license (the Member/Library Audio Book Agreement) will be made available very soon. These documents will need to be completed and returned to OCLC by each participating library. These documents will be posted on the project web site: www.sos.wa.gov/quicklinks/audiobook as soon as they become available.

For additional information, visit the website (link above) or contact Will Stuivenga at [email protected] or 360.704.5217.

3) SINGLE-SEARCH ACCESS THROUGH WORLDCAT LOCAL

WorldCat Local is the single search that connects people to all your library’s materials—physical, electronic and digital—as well as to the delivery services that get them what they need. Built on decades of work done by member libraries worldwide, WorldCat Local helps your users discover unique local resources alongside those of the entire OCLC cooperative, delivered in a single, integrated set of results.

With WorldCat Local, your library also gains Web visibility through OCLC’s partnerships with leading search engines (such as Google and Yahoo!), social networking services and other popular sites. Recent enhancements expand the reach of WorldCat Local searches to include articles indexed in JSTOR, SCOPUS and Science Direct plus remotely indexed resources from a growing number of popular content providers. WorldCat Local works with Wayfinder: The Catalog of Washington Libraries. For information on Wayfinder, a project of the Washington State Library, visit www.sos.wa.gov/quicklinks/Wayfinder.

To learn how your library can offer single-search access to your print, electronic and digital resources through WorldCat Local, attend one of these upcoming free Web information sessions:

  • February 10, 10:00 a.m. PST
  • March 10, 11:00 a.m. PST
  • March 24, 11:00 a.m. PST
