The Washington State Library routinely microfilms Washington newspapers as part of its mission to preserve and make accessible materials on the history and culture of the state. The following is a list of WSL’s most recently microfilmed newspaper titles:

2) 2011 IS DÍA’S BIG YEAR!

April 30, 2011, marks the 15^th anniversary of “Día” – “El día de los niños/El día de los libros” (“Children’s Day/Book Day”). The Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, is encouraging libraries to share their plans for celebrating this special day, which honors children, books, and cultures. 3) LOVE. TALK. PLAY.

As part of the events highlighting the National Week of the Young Child (April 10 – 16), Thrive by Five has kicked off their “Love. Talk. Play.” campaign, which aims to help making parenting a little easier by encouraging parents to focus on three things that they can, and should, be doing with their children from birth: love, talk, and play with them. The “Love. Talk. Play.” campaign was shaped by input from national early learning experts and conversations with lower-income parents, who often do not have access to parenting support and information. 4) ENRICH YOUR LIBRARY

The Fundraising Management Workshop, sponsored by the Public Library Association (PLA), in partnership with the Washington State Library, will equip you with the skills you need to develop an effective fundraising plan for your library and to implement it successfully. Throughout the two-day workshop, the instructor, June Garcia, will engage you in group exercises and provide you with practical, applicable skills. All library staff in Washington are eligible for the PLA Partner rate, which is only $250, $50 less than the ALA rate of $300. This class is part of the Certified Public Library Administrator (CPLA) program, but CPLA enrollment is not required to attend.
