1) FINDING FUNDING TO ENHANCE COLLECTION CARE
Do you need a preservation grant to take care of your collections? Many institutions have used grant-funded projects to enhance the level of care they can provide for their collections, and sometimes even to jump start their preservation programs.
Creating and Funding Preservation Projects to Enhance Collection Care is a one-day workshop from the Western States & Territories Preservation Assistance Service (WESTPAS) that begins by identifying and prioritizing collection needs, followed by reviewing sources of available grant funding. The third part of the workshop addresses the key preservation questions asked on grant applications, showing participants how to answer the questions on behalf of their institutions. The workshop emphasizes working collaboratively with colleagues to develop and receive feedback on project proposals.
Workshop information:
- When: Tuesday, June 12, 2012, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. PDT;
- Where: National Archives Pacific-Alaska Region Headquarters, Seattle;
- Cost: Free;
- Registration: Pre-registration is required. To register, go to www.sos.wa.gov/quicklinks/WESTPAS12June;
- Need help? For registration assistance, contact Alexandra Gingerich at [email protected]. For general and content information, contact Gary Menges at [email protected].

Each session is followed by a question and answer session. And, best of all, all events are free and open to the public! The next lecture, “Dual Languages: Designing Effective Instruction for Young Children of Diverse Backgrounds: What Works and Why,” will feature Dr. Linda Espinosa, from the University of Missouri, who will share her latest research on this topic.
