At the Upper Skagit Library
This article provides information to the community about Upper Skagit Library activities. The library thanks the community for contributing to the Winter Food and Book Drive. One-on-One tutoring is being offered on the first and third Fridays of each month. The tutoring focuses on basic computer skills, resumes, cover letters, and job applications. Call the library (360-853-7939) to schedule an appointment. The library has new hours: Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Upper Skagit Library Board meetings have been rescheduled to the second Thursday of each month in 2015. Buildings

Colfax, library revise building support formula
At their last meeting of the year, Colfax city council members approved a revised form for the annual city support contract for the library. The new version of the contract provides for less time to calculate a population factor in the pay formula and some safeguards to prevent some of the wide variations in the required payments. Donation will help expand Washougal library’s collection
Vern Schanilec, author of three books about plants and gardening, and his wife Faye, an avid reader, have contributed $5,000 to the Washougal Community Library that will fund the purchase of new books. (Camas-Washougal Post-Record, Camas, 1/6/15)

‘Oh, Quincy Land’ inspires new artist
About twenty paintings by artist Cheikh Diouf of Quincy are on display at the Quincy Public Library as part of Diouf’s Senegalese/American art exhibit. The paintings will be on display through March 15. (The Wenatchee World, Wenatchee, 1/9/15)

Library offers free online services to help students
The Kitsap Regional Library now offers three new online resources. The first of these is Britannica Library with three levels of access: Children, Young Adults, and Reference Center (for adults). It includes three encyclopedias, continually updated journal articles, primary-source material, multimedia, links to 129,000 expert websites, and several other useful tools. The second is PowerKnowledge which provides authoritative information for geology, astronomy, biology, and physics for students in grades 3 through 6. The third offering is Novelist, an online resource that suggests books a patron might enjoy based on their past reading experiences. (The Kitsap Sun, Bremerton, 1/4/15)

‘Classic Movie Mondays’ begins Jan. 12
Camas Public Library will launch its new “Classic Movie Mondays” series to be held each Monday at 2 p.m. through March 23. (Camas-Washougal Post-Record, Camas, 1/6/15)

Featured author will be at Jansen [Art Center] Feb. 24
As part of the Whatcom READS! Program, Whatcom County Library will host Daniel James Brown, author of ‘Boys in Boat’, for five in-person events from Feb. 24-26. All author events are free, no tickets required, and Brown will sign books following each event. (Lynden Tribune, Lynden, 1/7/15)

Reading train at Forks Library
Thanks to the financial support and generous volunteer efforts of the Forks Elks Lodge #2524, the Forks Library refurbished their little wooden train which is a favorite place for youngsters to sit, read, discover, and learn. The library extends its gratitude to Lodge #2524 and the national Elks organization for funding the project. (Forks Forum, Forks, 1/8/2015)

Make a splash with NOLS and the Forks Athletic & Aquatic Club!
The North Olympic Library System has partnered with Forks Athletic & Aquatic Club to make two free passes available for checkout beginning Jan. 5. Patrons may borrow each pass for up to one week. There are also passes available for the William Shore Pool in Port Angeles and the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center. To place a hold request, visit www.nols.org and use the online catalog to search for “Forks Pool Pass.” Hold requests can also be made by calling the library or visiting any of the four NOLS libraries in Clallam County. Tech guidance appointments now available at PA Library
The Port Angeles Library is offering 30-minute appointments with expert library staff for hands-on one-on-one technology tutoring. These free “Tech-Know-Logy” sessions will take place at the library at 2210 S. Peabody Street by appointment only between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesdays through March.
