1) BUILDING A COMIC AND GRAPHIC NOVEL COLLECTION WEBINAR

Washington State Library presents Building a Comic and Graphic Novel Collection, a free First Tuesdays webinar on June 2 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. PDT.

Comics and graphic novels are a medium that is changing and progressing at lightning speed. As the popularity of comics becomes more widespread, librarians are in a unique position to build comic collections that engage readers while starring protagonists of different perspectives and backgrounds. In this session Ivy Noelle Weir, a programming and young adult services librarian from Philadelphia, will cover how librarians can build diverse graphic novel collections, stay on top of trends, and incorporate diverse graphic novels into library programs to stimulate exciting and educational discussions.

2) TEMPORARY LIBRARIAN POSITION

The Utility & Transportation Commission is seeking a temporary librarian while recruiting a permanent librarian. There may be flexibility in schedule and hours. Ideally, the temporary librarian would start work soon so he/she can train with the current librarian.

3) WALE 2015 CALL FOR PRESENTERS

The Washington Association of Library Employees (WALE) Conference Committee is pleased to issue a call for presenters at the Annual WALE Conference to be held October 26-28, 2015 at Campbell’s Resort in Chelan, Washington.

WALE, an interest group of the Washington Library Association, supports and advocates for library employees across Washington. The 2015 conference will include three outstanding keynote speakers, many breakout sessions on a variety of topics impacting library staff, networking events, a library tour, and opportunities to volunteer and ask questions of the Conference Committee.

Please consider this year’s conference theme, Book to the Future, as well as the needs and interests of today’s library employees in presentation proposals. The Conference Committee looks forward to presentation proposals that best meet the evaluation criteria of being helpful and practical to WALE’s audience.

4) LEADERSHIP TRAINING APPLICATION DEADLINE MAY 30

Increase your knowledge and comfort in leading by attending the Pacific Northwest Library Association (PNLA) Leadership Institute (LEADS) October 25-30, 2015 in Long Beach, Washington.

  •  Applications will be accepted until May 30, 2015 so please apply now.

Applicants must:

  • be currently employed in a library
  • have worked at least five years in any library setting
  • be a current member of PNLA or affiliated state/provincial library association
  • submit a completed application packet.

5) 2015 ARSL CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY

The Association for Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL) is offering three conference scholarships for first time attendees to attend the 2015 conference in Little Rock, Arkansas October 1st-3rd. The scholarships vary, but provide for conference membership, a travel stipend, and hotel accommodations. All are welcome to apply including students, paraprofessionals, and MLS holders.
