The friends of the Spokane Valley Library announce the placement of a Little Free Library on the site of the proposed park/library at the corner of Sprague Avenue and Herald Road. The Little Free Library will be placed on September 12 and filled with books before the public meeting on the park/library conceptual site plan at 4 p.m. (Valley News Herald, 09.06.13)

The Richland Public Library has expanded its downloadable audio book and eBook collections. The library has joined a consortium of public libraries in Washington to share a group license for the OverDrive downloadable collection. Arts Groups are getting $405K for projects. The largest awards include $35,000 for a library and resource center for the Washington State Holocaust Education Resource Center and $35,000 for an elevator upgrade at El Centro de la Raza. Buildings
After more than a year of construction, the new Federal Way 320th Library is almost ready to re-open. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house was held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the same site as the previous library. The celebration included refreshments, traditional Latin American music by Los Flacos, and a magic show in the afternoon by Jeff Evans. Letter & Editorials
The local library has chosen a biography of photographer Edward Curtis – “Short Nights of Shadow Catcher” – for this year’s discussion group. They usually have art in their entry display case that reflects their book choice. Unfortunately, this year they have decided to only have photography displayed. (Belfair Herald [Shelton] 9.5.13)

The Library is designed to be a place where you can have peace and quiet to study and read. Unfortunately, on any given day, at the Battle Ground library, from morning to noon, kids are running wild fussing and throwing fits and overall being loud. (Reflector [Battleground] 10.09.13)

People

Awards
David Domkoski received the Community Outreach by an Individual award for his dedication in bringing the arts to Tacoma through his work in local theater and through his job at the Tacoma Public Library. Having served as the Tacoma Public Library’s community relations manager since 1987, Domkoski is responsible for the Handforth Gallery, featuring the work of local, regional and national visual artists. Programs & Displays
Sprague Completes reading program. An average of 22 children over a 31-day period participated in Sprague’s recently completed summer reading program at the city library. (Davenport Times [Sprague], 09.05.13)

Shelton library sponsors photo contest. This summer, the Timberland Regional Library’s Timberland Reads together program will encourage its patrons to read a book about one of the most iconic photographers in U.S. history. (Shelton-Mason County Journal, 09.05.13)
