1) USING WEBCAMS FOR ONLINE EVENTS
Reluctant to use a webcam for online training and meetings? Not sure how to incorporate it into your work? Nancy White with Full Circle Associates will provide tips of the trade, give advice, and lead a discussion on how and when to use a webcam. With significant experience using webcams for national and international meetings, workshops, and presentations, Nancy has been providing her expertise to the public libraries that received Renew Washington grants for the last six months. She is now expanding her training to all libraries in Washington.

2) 2010 NORTHWEST INTERLIBRARY LOAN CONFERENCE
The 2010 Northwest Interlibrary Loan & Resource Sharing Conference promises to be a great opportunity for professional development and networking. The conference will take place at Portland Community College, Sylvania campus September 16-17. A preconference will be held on September 15: Atlas Systems’ Stephanie Spires will present “ILLiad 8: Tools for Acquisitions and Collection Development.”
The conference theme is “Moving Forward: Gaining Momentum through Collaboration.” Keynote speaker Denise Forro will share her perspective on “The Great Confluence of Resource Sharing Challenges: Managing Demands, Technology, and Operations.” Sessions will discuss patron-driven acquisitions models, e-books and e-book readers, consortial partnerships, training technologies, and more.

4) AN ADVOCACY PLAN FOR YOUR LIBRARY
With public support for libraries shrinking, it is more critical than ever to have a political advocacy program in place. Library Strategies consultant and President of The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library, Peter Pearson, will present a plan for creating and sustaining a successful advocacy program for your library. Topics will include creating a powerful advocacy committee, drafting an advocacy platform, meeting with elected officials and sustaining your library’s advocacy efforts year to year.

5) HELPING JOB SEEKERS USING ELECTRONIC TOOLS AND FEDERAL RESOURCES
The Employment and Training Administration (ETA) invests in resources and services to support national and local workforce development needs. ETA staff will join WebJunction for a free, 90-minute webinar to provide an overview of the public workforce system and present the electronic tools most helpful to library staff that assist unemployed workers. Attendees will learn how to direct patrons to the right tools for their needs and to find local Workforce System partners. The presentation will also include an online tour of the O*NET System, CareerOneStop.org and America’s Service Locator, including Occupational Crosswalks, job search/resume preparation, and State Job Banks and Labor Market Information.
