1) STATEWIDE DATABASE LICENSING – INFORMATION REQUESTED

The WSL Statewide Database Licensing (SDL) Program is requesting your input in two areas: First, we are conducting a ProQuest training needs assessment survey. There are changes in content coming under the new ProQuest contract, including the addition of SIRS Discoverer, which runs on its own separate platform. To indicate your library’s ProQuest-related training needs, please complete the survey located at www.surveymonkey.com/s/XHC5KHH.

Second, to calculate costs under the new contract, we are collecting updated population and FTE numbers. For some private academic libraries, and for all special, hospital, and research libraries, we rely on self-reporting. There are forms available for this purpose on the SDL web site: www.sos.wa.gov/quicklinks/Renewal. Please complete these forms and return them as soon as possible.

For more information, visit www.sos.wa.gov/quicklinks/SDL or contact Will Stuivenga at [email protected] or 360.704.5217, toll-free 866.538.4996.

2) FREE LEGAL RESEARCH WEBINAR

Legal reference questions can be challenging to answer. Legal Research for Information Professionals will help public librarians learn practical skills for approaching these types of questions.

The webinar will enable participants to:

  • Translate keywords from reference questions into legal search terms for finding resources;
  • Describe legal resources available through Washington web sites, such as the Public Law Library of King County (formerly the King County Law Library), WashingtonLawHelp, and others;
  • Refer legal questions, as appropriate, to a law library.

 Presented by Kim Ositis from the Public Law Library of King County, this course is offered online via Elluminate. Instructions for login will be sent to each registrant. Monday, June 13, 2011; 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. PDT. To register, go to www.sos.wa.gov/quicklinks/legal.
