1) FREE BOOKS FOR DISCUSSION KITS OR COMMUNITY READS
If your library could use gently used copies of Great Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe (ISBN: 978-4165-3476-1) the Washington State library will be happy to send them to any Washington library. These are trade paperbacks left over from Timberland Regional Library’s community read program which they have graciously agreed to share with libraries in the state. The books are a Simon & Schuster enriched classic edition which means they have biographical and critical literary background included. Minimum request of at least ten books is required. 2) WALNET RFQ RELEASED
The Walla Walla Area Library Network (WALNET) is currently accepting statements of qualifications from individuals or firms capable of conducting an independent study to identify and evaluate models for delivering effective, sustainable library services throughout the Walla Walla region. The RFQ is available for viewing at: http://goo.gl/x2xew.

3) WCOG EVENT HONORS BALLARD AND THOMPSON
The Washington Coalition for Open Government invites you to attend a breakfast reception in honor of former Speaker of the House Clyde Ballard and former Chief Clerk of the House, Representative and Senator Alan Thompson.
Brief presentations honoring the service of Clyde Ballard and Alan Thompson will be featured. The Coalition will announce the inception of the Ballard/Thompson Award, to be presented beginning in 2011 to a member or members of the state legislature who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the cause of open government during the previous session through his/her support of legislation promoting accountability and accessibility in the conduct of the public’s business.

4) IMLS NATIONAL LEADERSHIP GRANTS
The Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) National Leadership Grants support projects that have the potential to elevate museum, archival, and library practice within the context of national strategic initiatives. The Institute seeks to advance the ability of museums, archives, and libraries to preserve culture, heritage, and knowledge; contribute to building technology infrastructures and information technology services; and provide 21st century knowledge and skills to current and future generations in support of a world-class workforce.
Successful proposals will have national impact and generate results-new tools, research, models, services, practices, or alliances-that can be widely adapted or replicated to extend the benefit of federal investment and that increase community access and participation. The Institute seeks to fund projects that have national impact, show innovation, and foster collaboration.
Applications for Project or Collaborative Planning Grants may be submitted in the following categories:
- Advancing Digital Resources;
- Research (basic or applied);
- Demonstration Projects;
- Library-Museum Collaboration Grants.
Grants from $50,000 to $1,000,000 are offered. There is a 1:1 matching requirement for grants over $250,000, and cost-sharing of at least one-third is encouraged for requests under $250,000 and for research projects.
